Summer Edition

It’s been a busy spring and summer so far! On Friday May 4th, IEC Western Reserve celebrated the graduation of our 4th year apprentices. Congratulations to our newest graduates, we are so proud of their accomplishments over the last 4 years! Best of luck in all your endeavors.

Now that school is out for the summer, it’s time to start looking towards the 2018-2019 school year, which starts Monday September 10, 2018. We are still accepting applications for the first-year class, so anyone interested should apply via this website, by clicking the “apply now”.

In addition to accepting applications for apprenticeship, we are also accepting applications for new contractor members! Any contractor that is interested in joining IEC Western Reserve can apply via the “apply now” tab on this website to submit a contractor application!

We have many exciting events on the horizon for both IEC Western Reserve apprentices and our contractor members so remember to check this site for updates as we get closer to the start of fall!

In closing here’s a look at how in demand apprenticeship and trade jobs are  right now!


  • Some 30 million jobs in the United States that pay an average of $55,000 per year don’t require bachelor’s degrees.
  • Seventy-percent of construction companies nationwide are having trouble finding qualified workers, according to the Associated General Contractors of America
  • Construction, along with health care and personal care, will account for one-third of all new jobs through 2022, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There will also be a need for new plumbers and new electricians.

Spring is on the horizon, and we at IEC Western Reserve realize that many people in our community and surrounding areas are starting to look towards next year. This time of year we receive many calls and emails regarding our electrical apprentice program. We would like anyone interested in applying for our program to carefully review the information on this website for all details regarding the application and testing procedure for the 2018-2019 school year.

Our school year begins September 10th, 2018 and the last day of class is April 25th, 2019. Classes are held Monday and Tuesday (1st and 2nd year) and Wednesday and Thursday (3rd and 4th year) from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

You are able to apply to our program directly from this website by clicking “apply now”. If you choose to apply online, please note that you will be contacted for a testing date, make sure that all contact information is up to date and correct.

In addition to applying online, we will hold 2 public application and testing dates. These dates are:

Wednesday April 18th, 2018from 5:30-7:30 P.M. and Saturday April 21st , 2018 from 9:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M.  This will be held at our training facility, located at 2007 South Ave, Youngstown, OH 44502.

In order to be accepted into the apprenticeship program, by the start of the 2018-2019 academic year, an applicant must:

– Be a minimum of 18 years old
– Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
– Must be able to physically perform the work of the trade
– Must pass a drug screen and a physical
– Have a valid driver’s license and a dependable mode of transportation
– Applicants are responsible for bringing a valid I.D. with them to the application date.

The aptitude test comprises approximately 50 questions. The questions are math related, basic electrical knowledge and general knowledge. No materials are provided or available to study for the aptitude test. You will need a basic calculator – cell phones are NOT permitted.

Participation in the testing and interview process does not guarantee admission into the apprenticeship program or an offer of employment from a member contractor.
